Phryne, Jude, and Hamlet

All my dolls in the Freaks and Geeks story have both nicknames and real names.

Zombie's real name is Hamlet Jones
Voodoo's real name is Jude Effrayant
Scorpio's real name is Phryne Ffoulkes

I don't yet know the real names of Snake Lady and Cyborg, but I imagine they will tell me when they arrive.

There is a meaning behind every name I choose for my characters.

Hamlet Jones:

Hamlet is from the Shakespeare. My Hamlet looks like a corpse and he is prone to be melancholy, bitter, and cynical. He is also reflective and thoughtful and he has studied at the University. People fear him, and part of him really hates it but an other part of him takes a twisted pleasure from it.

Jones is from Indiana Jones. Hamlet is also an adventurer and a bit of a geek. With his friends (the freaks) he is happy and often laughing.

Jude Effrayant:

Jude is from Jude Law. Sorry, but I just love that man!

Effrayant is a French word for scary, and as I'm basing my Voodoo king in New Orleans, I felt it appropriate to give him a French name. And Voodoo is a bit of a scary man.

Phryne Ffoulkes:

I really like the name Bryony but it didn't fit the character quite well, so when I read about Phryne from ancient Greece, I knew I had found the right name.
Phryne is a very beautiful and cleaver girl, but she's had a hard life. In ancient Greece, the name of Phryne was a nickname sometimes given to courtesans and prostitutes.
My Phryne is brave and she only cares about her friends. She gives absolutely zero f**ks about strangers and what they think of her.

Ffoulkes is from Sir Andrew Ffoulkes from the Scarlet Pimpernel series. Sir Andrew is loyal to his friend and leader, the Scarlet Pimpernel, just like Phryne is loyal to her friends. She will walk through fire for the people she loves.

Doll news!

One of my friends (maybe more of an acquaintance)  from the doll hobby is selling a lot of her dolls because she wants to buy a motorbike. She has some very cool and very limited dolls. I bought my Ringdoll Zombie Sol from her, and when I picked him up, I saw all her fancy dolls. She has dolls like Soom Bix, Souldoll Tarot dolls and Souloid dolls, she even has Souldoll Kowalski(!), and my favourit Iplehouse Cyborg Bianca.

I asked her if she was selling Cyborg Bianca too, and after some consideration she let me buy her! I'm super excited! Cyborg Bianca is one of the Iplehouse dolls I most regret not buying. She is amazing! And now she's moving in with me :D

I'm thinking Cyborg will fit in with the Freak and Geeks story with Zombie, Voodoo, Scorpio, and Lady Snake.

Speaking of the Freaks and Geeks; Voodoo and Scorpio should be here within a week. I'm so excited to see them irl. Also I'm planning to make Zombie a new wig; the old one is falling apart ever since I tried to colour it, and I need new eyes for either Zombie or Nathaniel as they are currently sharing.

As I am currently right in the middle of an exam (3 day take-home exam) I felt now was a perfect opportunity to update my blog :D

In the middle of April I received my Fifth Motif Venitu and I shipping him off to Russia just a few days later for a faceup. He's supposed to be a Voodoo king, and I wanted something very specific. Like a painted skull face but not a perfect one (if that makes sense). I just saw the finished result and I love him! He's just as I imagined him to be.

Here is a link to him on the faceup artist Flickr:

I also sent along my Elfdoll Vivien head. The head I wanted blushed to match a Soom Vesuvia body in bronze. For her I had no clear imagine of how I wanted her; I wanted her not to be pretty/girly but more rough.

And here is a link to her faceup (with her headcap to see the blushing):

I'm super excited to see my babies arrived home. I already have the first outfit ready for Venitu, but I haven't painted his body yet (I want his body covered in tattoos).
